Skin Needling Treatments

Skin Needling yields amazing results when treating those with mild to moderate skin laxity and/or acne scarring. Those with dark spots and sun damage respond very well to Skin Needling. Every skin type can benefit from the Skin Needling treatment, however those who have a history of Keloid issues should refrain. Skin Needling is perfect for those want great results, but do not wish to experience the downtime which is frequently associated with deeper laser resurfacing treatments.

Downtime after Skin Needling is minimal, but you can expect skin to be a little pink and sensitive for a couple of days. There will most likely be pinpoint bleeding during the treatment, which will stop almost immediately. Usually, your skin requires 24 or 48 hours to return to normal. You can begin wearing makeup after this time. Recovery time is also impacted by how deep the needle has penetrated. Deeper penetration is required for collagen induction. Other skin needling treatments require shallower pentation. Needles that have penetrated deeper will cause slight peeling of the upper layer of the epidermis. However, even then, you can start wearing sunscreen and makeup after 24 hours. It is recommended that you stay away from the sun and avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours following treatment. Additionally, it is recommended that hot showers, baths, and saunas are avoided for about two weeks after your treatment.

The best results are achieved by completing a series of treatments with Skin Needling. Although results vary from person to person, most will experience a decided improvement in tone and texture of the skin. Fine lines and wrinkles soften dramatically, and scarring becomes significantly less noticeable. Skin Needling has gained a strong reputation for rejuvenation sluggish, dull skin. Skin becomes noticeable tighter and smoother after even one treatment.

The number of Skin Needling treatments required for amazing results depends on what condition the skin is in when treatments are begun. Most find that a series of 6 or possibly 10 are needed to see truly dramatic changes in the complexion. Most who are hoping to tighten and tone their skin will be on track with 6 treatments. Those who are seeking to diminish the depth of acne scarring generally require a minimum of 8-10 sessions.

It is recommended that treatments are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. It is important that there is complete healing before having another session. As the Skin Needling procedure begins to stimulate collagen and elastin production, it becomes very important to maintain the momentum with regular treatments. Sticking with a set schedule of appointments yields the fastest and most dramatic results.

New tissue collagen and tissue will continue to form for up to a year after skin needling. Maintenance sessions once or twice or year can help your skin retain the improvements from your original treatment.

2 weeks prior to treatment:

• Avoid Laser Hair Removal, waxing, and IPL treatments
• Avoid Cosmetic Grade Peels
• Avoid Cosmetic Injectables
• Avoid sun exposure and always wear SPF
• For clients with medium to dark skin tones who are prone to hyperpigmentation, it is best to prepare the skin with a melanin inhibitor. This will help reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation after the treatment. Your therapist will advise whether this is needed in your consultation.

1 week prior to treatment:

• Avoid exfoliating products such as Retin-A
• Avoid blood thinning medications and supplements (for example aspirin, fish oil, St John’s wart, green tea)
• For clients with medium to dark skin tones who are prone to hyperpigmentation, continue using your melanin inhibitor

• For the first 48 hours, avoid excessive sun exposure, hot showers, and saunas, strenuous exercise.
• Avoid swimming or strenuous exercises at least for the next 48 hours.
• Use correct aftercare skin products that will gently hydrate and accelerate wound healing. Your therapist can advise here
• Avoid active/exfoliating products for the next 5-7 days after the treatment.
• Don't pull or pick any loose skin after the treatment.
